Representation

The movie opener shows two young adults in a relationship, a wife and her husband. The husband is a Formula 1 driver, which represents ambition, danger, and a fast-paced lifestyle. The wife is at home making coffee, which shows a calmer and more relaxed role. This creates a clear difference between the two characters and how they live. In terms of representation, this can be a little common because the male is shown doing something exciting and risky, while the female is shown in a more traditional home role. But the film also challenges representation through the wife’s emotional reaction. Instead of being just a background character, she becomes the main focus of the scene. When she gets the phone call from Chris telling her about her husband’s crash, we see her shock and denial. This gives her more depth and shows that she is more than just a supporting character. It shows real emotions like sadness, disbelief, and loss. A strong visual example is when the phone drops in slow motion as she starts to cry. This moment shows her emotional breakdown and helps the audience understand her pain. The slow motion makes the scene feel more powerful and important, showing how fast her life changes.
